Krabi Thailand

Krabi Thailand

Intro

One of my most memorable trips I have ever taken was to Railay Beach, a private beach in Krabi, Thailand that was only accessible by a long tail boat. Every picture I took, regardless of the angle or lighting, looked straight out of a picture book.

When I started planning my month long trip around Southeast Asia, I knew I wanted to visit a Thai beach. I had several friends within recent years who visited Thailand and raved about the beaches as well as showed pictures that looked absolutely magical. Most of the people I knew visited Phuket, which tends to be more of a party destination. My Thai beach stop would be smack dab in the middle of my journey, so I wanted something relaxing and serene, which is exactly what I got during my four days in Krabi.

Below I will share more about my adventure in Krabi along with some recommendations from myself and my research.

Typically when I travel, I usually only visit major cities. This doesn’t always mean you see the best that the local culture has to offer, but a lot of times the cities have a lot of famous attractions and more transportation options. I have to say the part of Thailand I liked the most was my time at the beach in Krabi. Getting to the beach resort I was staying at was more elaborate than when stopping in the city center of Bangkok. I flew from Bangkok’s airport to the airport in Krabi. Then the airport shuttle took me to Ao Nang where I hopped on a long tail boat to Railay West Beach. I stayed at the Sand Sea Resort Railay Krabi, which was a beachfront hotel and had absolutely magnificent views of the ocean. If you ever want to visit maybe one of the most relaxing and serene places in the world, I recommend this beach. There were no cars and you could only get there by the long tail boat I took. I was glad I brought a backpack as my suitcase versus rolling luggage. They drop you off in the water and not at a dock, keep in mind I am shorter but the water came up almost to my waist and I had to carry my bag over my head until I got to the shore. This was 3 days of outdoor activities like sitting by the beach and pool, water sports, walking around the town, and just Zen-ing out. What also made this leg of the trip extra special was it was the first relaxing part of the trip I had. Prior to this after flying to Asia from the United States, I had spent 10 days traipsing around cities and hopping around from location to location. By the time I had gotten to Krabi, I had already been to Shanghai, Hong Kong, Hanoi, and Bangkok, so I was ready for a relaxing break.

    1. Krabi dates back to the prehistoric period.

    2. The population of Krabi is just under 500,000 residents.

    3. The Thai word for Krabi translates to large ancientSword.

    4. Artifacts suggest a presence in Krabi 25,000 - 30,000 B.C.

  • When planning my trip to Thailand, I was 100% positive I wanted to visit a Thai beach. I knew I didn't want a party town like Phuket, so a quick Google search brought me to a hotel on Railay Beach in Krabi. Past that it was down to logistics, where am I coming from, how will I get to Krabi from my origin, transportation to the remote Railay Beach, etc.

What I always recommend is identifying your schedule, your budget, the objective of the trip (attractions, relaxation, water sports, etc.). Also, to be safe, I always make a copy of my passports just in case of emergencies and keep that on me when touring around.

  • When I stayed in Krabi, I stayed in the Railay Village Resort which was reasonably priced, a nice hotel, with a beautiful landscape. All the hotels in the region are more local brands. My recommendation was to verify your budget, reviews of the hotels, the hotels availability, and the website.

Conclusion

Typically I am content visiting a destination once as I would prefer to spent my vacation days and resources seeing something new. With that said, Thailand…the land of smiles is a country I hope to visit again soon for its rich history and serene beauty is unparalleled. When I visited Krabi, I went to disconnect and recharge, which is exactly what I experienced.
