Short Stories
In 2020, some friends and I started a virtual group for all types of creatives to connect and collaborate. It morphed into a creative writing group that has lasted 3 years, where we take an hour each week to create a fictional piece of work off of a few word prompts. Here are some of those creations.
Ridiculously Rich Men Creating Their Own Spaceships
All of these really, really, ridiculously rich men are creating their own spaceships and going into outer space. Branson. Bezos. Must be nice to have stupid money. You can just wake up one morning and not worry about how you will pay your bills, but rather think: Huh. I’m bored. Maybe I’ll try outer space today. Like earth isn’t big enough for you.
Trying Not to Let Bitterness Build
On my way to Anna’s baby shower, I stopped at the bank to get some cash. I hate when banks only have outdoor ATMs. It’s like you’re asking to get robbed. I know they have those little reflectors to see who’s coming up behind you but typically by that point it’s too late. But whatever, I am running late and I am trying not to let bitterness build.
The Last Thing I Remember
The last thing I remember while in the operating room before my knee surgery was hopping onto the operating table. Being super out of it from the drugs, I could barely muster up the energy to slide myself over, thus my underwear slid down while I announced:
Art History
I went to the Neue Galerie this morning on Central Park East.
Hot Tub
It was a cold winter's evening, so Ted and I decided to get in the hot tub. We bought a tiny 3-person hot tub with the thought of using it religiously but that never materialized.
Rushed
Today was my chores day. Of course I leave everything until the last minute before heading out of town on vacation. I rushed to the florist after putting my clothes in the laundry room.
I Knew
I knew my body would change as I got older, but I never thought I would be this weak.
Creative Liberties
I’m not sitting on a high horse, I just drank a slushy through a funnel.
Fishing Dock
When I think of a fishing dock I think of a time when I was maybe six or seven and my dad took my brother and I down to a dock with our little fishing poles to go ‘fishing’.
Chanukah Bush
While hanging an ornament on my Chanukah bush…it’s a short Christmas tree, but we can pretend. Any other time of the year, it’s just a tree but whatever - we’ll pretend it’s Chanukah themed for the next 8 days.
The Ocean Is Blue
The sky is pink and the ocean is as blue as my eyes. They are bluer after I cry.
Out Of The Blue
Out of the blue when I was babysitting, I got a black eye. I guess I was just hit in the eye with the anticipation of a black eye that would eventually turn the perimeter of my eye the same deep blue as my actual eye.
No Difference
The teacher didn’t know I had no money. What difference would it have made?
Hold Please
Do you want sushi tonight? I suppose sushi would be better in Japan, but we aren’t in Japan right now.
Freckled Girl
The girl jumps out of bed like the world is in her corner.
Eating French Baguettes
I always have anxiety when I travel. Even though I usually go to islands where I sit on the beach and stare at the ocean. I should be serene, not about to spiral.
Dark and Creepy
It was a cold winter morning in Cape Cod. We made it to the bed and breakfast around 4:30pm, just as it was getting dark and creepy out.
You Forgot Your Change
At about a ⅓ of a mile from home I started running and he paced behind me a bit until I tripped over a rock and fell flat on my face. Not a graceful or easily recovered fall. My wrist was sore and my knees scraped up.
The Rest of the Weekend Was Uneventful
I wonder how she is going to feel about that tomorrow or next week, next year.
Tickled Pink
You will be tickled pink to know that I had to cleanse…the black box theater.
